A chimney cap is the protective coverage on the top of your chimneys enclosure. They are usually made of stainless steel, chopper or galvanized metals. The outside is strong enough to protect against the effects of the weather and wild animals that might be interested in damaging the chimney.

The chimney cap will guarantee that the chimney will not be harmed by the outside forces and therefore also assures that the safe condition of the chimney is not disturbed.

You might think that chimney caps are not important as all the fire is in your fireplace or oven and not in the chimney, but really a lot of burning particles reach the chimney and if the cap is not suitable can cause fire.

Also some wild animals, like squirrels and birds, seem to be attracted to the warmth of the chimney and can build a nest there.
